MP Athletes Shine at Commonwealth Games—Yamini Maurya and Ajay Babu Win Silver

Amid India’s impressive performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, athletes from Madhya Pradesh added to the nation’s glory with outstanding performances. Yamini Maurya of Sagar won the silver medal in women’s 57 kg judo, while Ajay Babu secured the silver medal in weightlifting, bringing pride to the state.

Congratulating both athletes, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Shri Vishvas Kailash Sarang said their achievements reflect Madhya Pradesh’s growing excellence in sports and serve as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across the state. The Minister said Indian athletes have consistently enhanced the country’s prestige through remarkable performances on the international stage, and the success of two Madhya Pradesh athletes at the Commonwealth Games is a matter of immense pride for the entire state. He praised Yamini Maurya for her determination, technical skill and fighting spirit in winning the silver medal in the women’s 57 kg judo event, while commending Ajay Babu for his outstanding performance in weightlifting.

Minister Shri Sarang expressed confidence that these achievements would motivate the state’s emerging sportspersons to excel at international competitions and inspire them to pursue sporting excellence. He also expressed hope that athletes from Madhya Pradesh and India would continue their winning momentum and secure more medals in upcoming international events.

Sports Minister Congratulates Yamini Maurya via Video Call

Sports Minister Shri Vishvas Kailash Sarang spoke to Yamini Maurya via video call and congratulated her on winning a silver medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games. He described her achievement as a matter of great pride for both Madhya Pradesh and the nation, wished her a bright future, and expressed confidence that she would win a gold medal in forthcoming international competitions.

₹25 Lakh Incentive and Government Jobs under Sports Policy

Announcing incentives under the Madhya Pradesh Sports Policy, Shri Sarang said that Yamini Maurya and Ajay Babu would each receive a cash incentive of ₹25 lakh for winning silver medals at the Commonwealth Games. In addition, both athletes will be offered government jobs in accordance with the provisions of the State Sports Policy.

Government Committed to Supporting Athletes

Shri Sarang said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the State Government is continuously strengthening the sporting ecosystem by providing world-class sports infrastructure, modern training facilities, advanced coaching and sustained support to athletes. He added that the government’s objective is to create an enabling sports environment that empowers athletes from Madhya Pradesh to consistently excel at national and international competitions and bring greater glory to both the state and the nation.
