Uttar Pradesh consistently setting records in the horticulture sector: Horticulture Minister

Lucknow, August 2026 : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has achieved another significant milestone in the horticulture sector. Uttar Pradesh has secured the first position in the country in mushroom production. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state established a new national record by producing 51 thousand metric tonnes of mushrooms during the year 2024-25. Out of the country’s total mushroom production of 4.27 lakh metric tonnes, Uttar Pradesh accounts for approximately 13 percent. This achievement is the result of the hard work of farmers, the use of modern technologies, and the farmer-friendly policies of the state government.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Foreign Trade, and Agricultural Export, Dinesh Pratap Singh, stated that the Yogi Government is consistently promoting value-added crops with the objective of increasing farmers’ income and making them self-reliant. He said, “Mushroom production has emerged as a successful initiative in this direction. The government’s priority is to ensure the preservation of farmers’ produce, value addition, and better marketing so that they can derive maximum benefit from their produce.”

Mr. Singh further informed, “To promote mushroom cultivation, the Horticulture Department is providing a subsidy of 40 to 50 percent under the Integrated Horticulture Development Mission (MIDH). This crop, which requires less land, lower investment, and is ready in just three to four weeks, is proving to be highly beneficial for farmers.”

The Horticulture Minister added, “During the year 2025-26, around 30 units for mushroom production, compost making, and spawn making have been approved with a 40 percent subsidy. Similarly, for mushroom units based on the 200 square foot thatched method, a 50 percent subsidy (maximum Rs 1 lakh) is being provided, under which around 80 units have been established. The department is providing subsidy benefits for a maximum of five units to a single beneficiary.”

He noted that mushroom production is providing a new direction to the rural economy and said, “Along with farmers, this cultivation has also emerged as a strong medium of self-employment and entrepreneurship for women. Mushroom cultivation is rapidly gaining popularity in many districts, including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Saharanpur, Mirzapur, Jaunpur, Hardoi, Basti, Meerut, Pratapgarh, Raebareli, and Sonbhadra. The department is ensuring continuous growth in production and income by connecting farmers with scientific techniques, training, and technical guidance.”

Mr. Singh informed that the Horticulture Department is effectively and transparently implementing schemes such as the National Horticulture Mission, Horticulture Development Scheme, Integrated Horticulture Development Programme, polyhouse and protected cultivation, drip and sprinkler irrigation, quality planting material production, nursery development, beekeeping, mushroom production, and post-harvest management. Through these schemes, extensive benefits are being provided to eligible horticulturists while continuously working towards making Uttar Pradesh a leading state in the field of horticulture.
