Smooth Conduct of Village Council By-Election in Various Locations of Khawzawl District

Khawzawl : This morning at 7:00 am, a by-election for a new member of Khawzawl Dinthar Village Council (VC08013) was held. Voting continued until 5:00 pm, and ZPM candidate Pu Lalhmingsanga emerged victorious. The election was held to fill the vacancy left by the passing of Pu C. Vanlalena, a former member of the Khawzawl Dinthar Village Council.

The vote counts for the three contesting candidates were as follows:

  1. Pu K. Lawmthanga (INC) – 128 votes
  2. Pu R. Rohmingliana (MNF) – 212 votes
  3. Pu Lalhmingsanga (ZPM) – 213 votes

There was one invalid vote.

The Khawzawl Dinthar electoral roll had 797 registered voters, with 394 men and 403 women. In today’s VC by-election, 554 votes were cast, resulting in a voter turnout of 69.51%. The polling station for this election was set up at Govt. Little Flower School.

Meanwhile, the planned Chawngtlai Village Council by-election was called off as no candidates came forward to contest the five vacant seats. As a result, the following candidates were declared uncontested winners:

  1. Pu PC Sangzawna (MNF)
  2. Pu Lalhmutluanga (INC)
  3. Pu Lalnunsanga (ZPM)
  4. Pu HC Lalrinenga (ZPM)
  5. Pi Biakremmawii (ZPM)

The Khawzawl Deputy Commissioner announced that, due to the lack of opposition, the election in Chawngtlai was canceled, and the candidates were declared winners uncontested.
