Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai said that it is our collective responsibility to get rid of sickle cell disease from Chhattisgarh and we will all make collective efforts for this. The aim of this campaign is to make the state free from diseases like sickle cell and to raise awareness about it among the people.
Under this campaign, special camps are being organized at panchayat, block and district levels in the state to identify people up to 40 years of age on the basis of possible symptoms and provide necessary treatment and medicines. Along with this, sickle cell testing of every pregnant woman is being ensured. So that every child born is healthy and sickle cell free.
It is worth noting that sickle cell is a genetic blood disorder. It causes many health problems. In which the normal shape of the red blood cell changes to a sickle shape. Due to the sickle shape of the blood cells, its oxygen carrying capacity reduces and these cells start sticking to the blood vessels. Due to this, there is a problem in the supply of oxygen to all the organs of the body, due to which the affected person faces problems like body pain, difficulty in breathing, fever. He said that there are two types of sickle cell carriers and sickle cell patients. Sickle cell carriers do not have serious symptoms but they pass on the disorder to the next generation.
