Trump Says Iran Agrees to Key Nuclear Demands, Rules Out Regime Change
Washington, July 2026 : US President Donald Trump has said Iran has agreed to “just about everything” Washington has sought in ongoing negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme, while reiterating that the United States will never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon.
In an interview with CNBC, Trump expressed optimism about the direction of the talks, saying his administration’s primary objective remains the complete prevention of Iran’s nuclear weapons capability rather than pursuing political change in the country.
“We’re negotiating, and we’ll see whether or not. I think they’ve agreed to just about everything we need,” Trump said, adding that the focus of the negotiations was the “denuking of Iran.”
Emphasising his administration’s position, Trump said the United States is determined to ensure that Iran never develops nuclear arms. “This is the denuking of Iran. You can’t let them have a nuclear weapon,” he said.
The President dismissed suggestions that Washington was attempting to overthrow Iran’s leadership, stressing that regime change was not part of the US strategy.
“I’m not looking for regime change. I’m looking for something very simple. They cannot have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.
Highlighting recent military actions, Trump claimed that US operations had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities since he returned to office. He asserted that Tehran’s armed forces had been severely degraded and warned that any remaining military assets could also be targeted if necessary.
“I’ve defeated them militarily. They’re totally defeated militarily. They have some missiles left, we could wipe them out too,” he said.
Trump also revealed that the United States had carried out multiple military strikes in response to what he described as Iranian provocations, including drone-related incidents involving commercial shipping.
“I hit them three times last week very hard, because they sent a drone into a ship. Then they did something else, and I hit them. I hit them three nights in a row, and the week before I hit them two nights in a row, very hard,” he said.
The President further claimed that the US Navy had effectively imposed a maritime blockade around Iran, preventing vessels from reaching the country despite avoiding the formal designation of a blockade.
“I did a blockade that was essentially not a blockade, it was a wall of steel. We have the greatest navy in the world. Not one ship got through to Iran,” Trump said.
According to Trump, the pressure campaign has had a significant economic impact on Iran, pointing to soaring inflation and declining revenues. He claimed the country was facing severe economic hardship, with inflation exceeding 300 percent.
Trump suggested that if a comprehensive agreement is reached, the United States could become a major supplier of agricultural products to Iran. He said American farmers could provide essential commodities such as corn, wheat and soybeans under a future arrangement.
“We’re going to take some of the money, and we’re going to buy them. They need food, and we’re going to have exclusively our American farmers provide that, assuming we get to the position where we should get to,” he said.
The President also defended his administration’s handling of security in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that US naval operations ensured the uninterrupted movement of commercial shipping and helped prevent a major spike in global oil prices.
Iran, meanwhile, has consistently maintained that its nuclear programme is intended solely for peaceful civilian purposes. However, the United States and several Western nations have continued to press Tehran to ensure it does not develop nuclear weapons, making the issue a central focus of ongoing diplomatic negotiations.
