Adani Energy Wins ₹8,500 Crore Andhra Transmission Project to Power Green Hydrogen Hub

Ahmedabad, July 2026 : Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) on Friday announced that it has secured an ₹8,500 crore interstate power transmission project in Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in strengthening India’s clean energy infrastructure. The project will provide reliable electricity to the proposed Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia manufacturing hubs in the Visakhapatnam region, which are expected to require nearly 4,500 MW of power.

The project was awarded under the Government of India’s tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism, with AESL emerging as the successful bidder. According to the company, the transmission network is scheduled to be completed within 30 months.

Commenting on the development, AESL Chief Executive Officer Kandarp Patel described the project as a major step towards creating the energy infrastructure needed to support India’s next phase of industrial and clean energy growth.

“The Vizag transmission project is an important step in building the energy backbone for India’s next generation of industrial growth. It will support the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in Andhra Pradesh while also strengthening the electricity grid to meet the rising demand from the Pendurthi-Visakhapatnam region,” Patel said.

The company noted that Visakhapatnam is rapidly emerging as a strategic destination for digital infrastructure, driven by investments in artificial intelligence (AI), hyperscale data centres, subsea cable connectivity, logistics, renewable energy and advanced industrial facilities.

AESL said the new transmission network will play a crucial role in supporting these developments by ensuring reliable power supply, enhanced grid stability and sufficient capacity for future industrial expansion.

The project will be executed through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named Vizag Power Transmission Ltd, which will oversee the development, construction and operation of the transmission assets.

As part of the project, AESL will add approximately 1,582 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines along with 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity. Upon completion, the company’s total transmission network will expand to 29,531 circuit kilometres, while its overall transformation capacity will increase to 1,33,675 MVA, further consolidating its position as India’s largest private-sector power transmission company.

The company highlighted that robust transmission infrastructure is essential as the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia scales up in Andhra Pradesh. These industries require uninterrupted access to high-capacity electricity to ensure operational efficiency and long-term competitiveness.

In addition to supporting the clean energy sector, the project is expected to meet the rapidly growing electricity demand from the Pendurthi-Visakhapatnam corridor, where large-scale investments in data centres and digital infrastructure are underway.

AESL said the project aligns with India’s broader transition towards a cleaner, technology-driven economy by developing resilient and future-ready power transmission networks capable of supporting renewable energy integration, advanced manufacturing and digital growth.
