Tripura to Launch App-Based Cabs at MBB Airport

AGARTALA: Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced the launch of app-based cab services at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport to offer passengers more comfortable and affordable travel options. While prepaid taxis and auto-rickshaws are currently available, they fall short of modern services like Ola and Uber. This new initiative aims to bridge that gap and improve the overall travel experience.

Chowdhury reassured local transport operators that their interests would be safeguarded under the new system. He encouraged existing taxi operators to remain operational at the airport until the last flight of the day to ensure the best possible service for travelers.

Regarding international travel, the minister hinted that flights from Agartala to Chittagong, Bangladesh, are on the horizon, though it may take some time for them to be introduced. Once implemented, these flights will further boost connectivity in the region.

The introduction of app-based cabs will provide passengers with a more convenient and cost-effective travel option than the existing prepaid cabs. The MBB Airport currently handles around 4,000 passengers daily, and this initiative is expected to enhance their experience.

On Friday, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha unveiled a broader vision to promote tourism in the state. Speaking on World Tourism Day 2024, the CM highlighted the signing of a ₹692 crore Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build ropeways in key tourist areas. The project will connect Udaipur Railway Station to Matabari, Maharani to Chabimura, Surmachara, and Jampui Hills.

Saha emphasized the importance of tourism for the state’s economic growth and praised Tripura’s natural beauty as a valuable asset for attracting tourists and boosting the economy.
