CBI Probes Kolkata Cops in Junior Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case
Kolkata : Four Kolkata Police officers who were on duty at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital on the morning of August 9 are now under investigation by the CBI. The officers are being scrutinized as part of the probe into the rape and murder of a junior doctor found dead on the hospital premises that day.
The victim’s body was discovered in the seminar room of the hospital on August 9. According to sources, the statements of the four officers present at the time are considered vital for the investigation, particularly in understanding any possible tampering with evidence after the body was found.
Among the four officers, one is a female officer. They have already been questioned by investigators about their observations regarding the handling of the victim’s body on the morning of the incident and whether they received specific instructions from their superiors. If necessary, they will be questioned again to clarify any remaining ambiguities.
Simultaneously, sources reveal that investigators are closely examining CCTV footage from RG Kar hospital, which was initially handed over by Kolkata Police. A key challenge for the investigators is determining whether this footage was altered in any way.
On Friday, the CBI informed a special court in Kolkata that there was an initial attempt to frame the rape and murder as a suicide. Sources further indicate that the former Principal, Sandip Ghosh, and ex-SHO of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mondal, have been identified as key figures behind the tampering of evidence during the Kolkata Police’s early investigation.
Investigators are now focusing on identifying other individuals who may have collaborated with Ghosh and Mondal in manipulating the evidence.
