Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Pushes for Timely Completion of Water Projects; No Delays Tolerated

Jaipur – Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma emphasized that the availability of drinking and irrigation water is a top priority for the state government. He urged the rapid completion of projects related to the intrastate linking of rivers and stressed the need for water conservation through public participation. He also directed that regular monitoring of water resource projects be ensured for timely execution.

Presiding over a review meeting on Monday at the Chief Minister’s Office, which focused on projects related to water resources, the Indira Gandhi Canal, and irrigated sector development, Shri Sharma called for strict action against contractors and officials responsible for unnecessary delays in these projects.

Ramp Up Brahmani River Construction
While reviewing budget announcements, Shri Sharma directed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for connecting the surplus water from the Jakham River and the Mahi basin to the Jaisamand Dam, as well as for diverting water from the Mahi and Som Rivers to the Jawai Dam, be completed within the next four months. He also ordered the acceleration of dam construction on the Brahmani River. Additionally, the Chief Minister instructed the swift commencement of land acquisition for the construction of flaps at Dungri Dam and Isarda Dam, ensuring adequate compensation for affected people.

No Unnecessary Delays in Projects
Shri Sharma reviewed the physical progress of various projects costing more than ₹500 crore. Regarding the Parvan Project, he emphasized that the construction of both dams for water storage and canals for water supply should occur simultaneously to avoid cost escalation. He also called for the timely completion of the Dholpur Lift Irrigation and Drinking Water Project and a redesign of the Upper High-Level Canal Project in Banswara.

Local Plans for Natural Depression Projects
The Chief Minister reviewed plans to convert four natural depressions along the Indira Gandhi Canal’s main canal into reservoirs. He suggested exploring the completion of this project through the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) using local plans. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining quality in rehabilitation works funded by external loans. Additionally, the review covered projects implemented through Centrally Sponsored Schemes.

ERCP Benefits for Neemrana and Ghilot Industrial Areas
In the meeting, Shri Sharma discussed the revised first phase of the KPC-ERCP project and its points related to drinking and industrial water usage. He instructed that water utility aspects for the Neemrana and Ghilot Japanese industrial areas be included in the project. He also reviewed the progress of Devas Projects III and IV and called for an acceleration of development work.

On this occasion, Water Resources Minister Mr. Suresh Singh Rawat, Additional Chief Secretary for Water Resources Mr. Abhay Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary for Finance Mr. Akhil Arora, Additional Chief Secretary from the Chief Minister’s Office Mr. Shikhar Agarwal, Indira Gandhi Canal Board Chairman Mr. Kunjylal Meena, and other concerned departmental officers were present.
