Chief Minister Reviews Home Department: “Criminals Should Leave the Region” – Emphasis on Police Vigilance in Crime Prevention – Total Crime Rate Decreased During Current Government’s Tenure
Jaipur – Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma directed the police to operate with full vigilance and efficiency to maintain law and order across the state. He emphasized that maintaining law and order is a top priority for the state government, and it is the responsibility of the police to ensure this. He also advocated for improved policing techniques to address crimes against women, as well as Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Furthermore, he instructed strict action against those involved in cybercrime and the illegal drug trade.
Significant Reduction in Crimes Against Women and SC-ST Communities
The Chief Minister highlighted a notable decrease in the state’s crime rate due to the diligence of the police department. Compared to last year, the overall crime rate has dropped by 7.3 percent. Crimes against women have seen an 8.8 percent decline, while atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Tribes have reduced by 13.96 percent.
Shri Bhajanlal Sharma was speaking during a review meeting of the Home Department held at the Chief Minister’s Office on Thursday. He stressed that the police’s alertness plays a critical role in upholding law and order, urging that criminals should either abandon crime or leave the region. He instructed officers to utilize police intelligence and informer networks to prevent anti-social elements from creating unrest in the state.
The Chief Minister commended efforts to tackle cybercrime, specifically praising work done in Bharatpur, and called for continuous monitoring of cyber activities. He also suggested that the overall image of the police department be evaluated.
Community Policing and Law Enforcement
Shri Sharma mentioned that Rajasthan has about 90,000 Community Liaison Group (CLG) members and 31,441 village guards. These individuals play a collaborative role in crime prevention, public awareness, and maintaining law and order. He encouraged the introduction of innovations in policing and called for honoring those who assist law enforcement in preventing crime. Additionally, he urged stringent action against criminals and anti-social elements.
Narcotics Department to Take Responsibility
The Chief Minister pointed out that drug addiction severely harms society, particularly the youth. He emphasized that drug abuse destroys families and directed the Narcotics Department to take full responsibility for combating drug addiction, with the goal of protecting the youth from falling into this destructive habit.
Strict Measures in Jails
Addressing incidents of mobile phone use in jails, Shri Sharma issued strict instructions to prevent such occurrences in the future. He warned that jail personnel found responsible for allowing mobile phones inside would face severe consequences.
Praises for Rajasthan Police
The Chief Minister praised the Special Operations Group (SOG) for its exceptional work in investigating paper leak cases, stating that their actions have garnered nationwide recognition. The state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy in such cases, further boosting Rajasthan’s credibility. He remarked that Rajasthan Police is excelling in crime control.
During the meeting, Shri Sharma announced the establishment of women’s help desks in police stations, women’s police stations in every district, the creation of new police stations, upgrades for existing ones, and the establishment of cyber help desks and an anti-gangster task force. Various other initiatives, including improved internet connectivity in police stations and enhanced CCTV monitoring, were also reviewed. Senior officers presented updates on the budget allocations for the Police Department, Anti-Corruption Bureau, State Forensic Science Laboratory, Prisons Department, Prosecution, and Home Defense Department, alongside future action plans.
Minister of State for Home Shri Jawahar Singh Bedham, Director General of Police Shri U. R. Sahu, and several senior government and police officials participated in the meeting, with others joining via video conferencing.
