Agreement to Build 81,000 Houses for Mill Workers – Housing Minister Atul Save
Mumbai : Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar are working diligently for the rights of mill workers. An agreement has been made to build 81,000 houses in the Mumbai metropolitan area for the housing of mill workers. A total of 174,000 applications from mill workers have been received, of which 108,000 have been validated by the labor department. Housing Minister Atul Save stated today that more houses will be constructed for the mill workers.
Karmayogi AVP Reality and Chadha Developers and Promoters, who qualified in the expression of interest process for selecting project promoters, were issued letters of intent by Minister Save during the event. Valsa Nair Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of the Housing Department, was also present.
Minister Save noted that after the 1982 strike, a total of 15,870 flats have been allotted through MHADA to mill workers from 58 closed and sick textile mills in Brihanmumbai. An additional 2,874 flats will be allotted to mill workers through MHADA. He mentioned that the eligibility of the remaining mill workers has been determined, and there is still a requirement for approximately 100,000 houses.
Minister Save stated that the largest labor colony in the country has been established at Ray Nagar in Solapur. We have signed an agreement to build 81,000 houses. We have engaged two different companies in the Mumbai metropolitan area to construct these houses for mill workers. The government will contribute ₹5.5 lakh, while the remaining ₹9.5 lakh will need to be paid by the eligible beneficiary mill workers or their heirs. Each house will be available for ₹15 lakh and will be ready in the next three years. Each unit will feature a 300 sq. ft. habitable area, a community hall, a garden, a children’s play area, and a small park for senior citizens, Minister Save added.
