Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Directs District Collectors to Conduct Immediate Assessments of Damage Caused by Retreating Monsoon and Compensate Affected Farmers
Mumbai, October 19: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has instructed the relevant district collectors to promptly assess the damage caused by the retreating monsoon in various parts of the state over the past few days and to provide compensation to those affected.
Recent heavy rainfall has occurred in several districts and talukas across the state, including Amaravati, Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, and Marathwada. In some areas, the rain was accompanied by strong winds, resulting in significant damage to crops. Many types of crops stored in the fields have been damaged, and the harvested crops have become waterlogged.
In particular, various crops such as rice, soybeans, tur, cotton, sugarcane, and orchards have suffered damage. Chief Minister Shinde has directed the district administration to conduct immediate assessments of all this damage. He emphasized the need to establish a mechanism for swift action in the affected villages for assessments and compensation. The Chief Minister has also instructed that relevant officials should be notified to ensure this process is initiated. He has directed that disaster management cells at the district level, taluka-level mechanisms, and all related departments work together in coordination for this purpose.
