12 Dwadash Madhav Temples to get a grand new look, its ancient architecture to be preserved
Prayagraj : In preparation for the upcoming Mahakumbh 2025, the Yogi Adityanath government is making significant strides in revitalizing the Dwadash Madhav temples and the Panchkoshi Parikrama in Prayagraj. Known as Tirtharaj, Prayagraj is steeped in mythological significance, with the Dwadash Madhav temples serving as a cornerstone of its spiritual identity.
The Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Department is prioritizing these 12 Dwadash Madhav temples in its tourism initiatives, aiming to enhance their prominence on the cultural map of the region. Additional Kumbh Mela Officer Vivek Chaturvedi has reported that the renovation work is progressing rapidly, with approximately 85 percent of the rejuvenation efforts already completed.
The extensive restoration project, which boasts a budget of Rs 12.34 crore, is in its final stages, ensuring that these ancient temples are revitalized and ready to welcome devotees during the Mahakumbh.
Notably, the ancient temples of Prayagraj, linked to local mythological beliefs, are a major draw for devotees attending the Maha Kumbh. Among these, the Dwadash Madhav temple group is leading the way in restoration efforts, with a focus on preserving its original structure.
According to Additional Kumbh Mela Officer Vivek Chaturvedi, several improvements have been made to enhance the temple experience. These include theme-based entrance gates, murals, red sandstone signages, a satsang bhawan, seating benches, new flooring, drinking water facilities, toilets, a boundary wall, and landscaping with greenery.
Additionally, as part of the “Paint My City” campaign, religious and spiritual symbols, along with tree paintings, will be added to the temple grounds.
