43rd State Boxing Championship, 2024 Concludes Successfully
Hnahthial : The 43rd State Boxing Championship, 2024, organized jointly by the Mizoram Boxing Association (MIZBA) and the Hnahthial District Boxing Association (HADBA), took place at GSA Hall in Hnahthial District. The closing ceremony was held yesterday, with the event being graced by the guest of honor, South Tuipui MLA, Pu Jeje Lalpekhlua.
During his address, the chief guest expressed his appreciation for the event and acknowledged the privilege of hosting the Boxing Championship in Hnahthial. He emphasized the importance of boxing, not only as a sport but also for physical fitness and resilience, highlighting that boxing promotes a disciplined and healthy lifestyle. He encouraged the boxers to continue their efforts, aiming to achieve national-level success. He assured the government’s continued support and commitment, emphasizing that Hnahthial District will not be left behind in development.
Addressing the audience, the MLA spoke about the ongoing efforts and policies, including the Handholding Policy and the Chief Minister’s Special Package. He urged the residents to make the best use of these initiatives, whether in sports or other areas, and reassured them that the government remains dedicated to achieving the set goals. He encouraged everyone to be actively involved in utilizing government programs aimed at their welfare.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining good health for sports success. Reflecting on Hnahthial’s current records, he noted the high prevalence of HIV and substance abuse in the district, urging the community to take collective action to overcome these issues. He reiterated the government’s efforts to tackle these problems and called upon everyone to support educational and developmental initiatives.
The event was attended by MIZBA and HADBA members, Hnahthial SP Pu Manny Bhushan Singh, and Additional SP Pu Beimosia Lapi, among others.
The Boxing Championship took place from 22nd to 25th October, with participants from various districts competing. The number of male and female boxers from each district was as follows:
- Hnahthial District: Male – 13
- Kolasib District: Male – 13
- Mamit District: Male – 6
- Aizawl District: Male – 33, Female – 5
- Aizawl SAI: Male – 10, Female – 9
- MSSC: Male – 7, Female – 2
- Champhai: Male – 22, Female – 4
- Khawzawl: Male – 4
- Serchhip: Male – 21
- Lunglei SAI: Male – 18, Female – 5
- Lawngtlai: Male – 10, Female – 6
- Siaha: Male – 23, Female – 2
- MRP: Male – 6
A total of 186 male and 33 female boxers from various districts participated.
Team Results:
In the women’s category, Aizawl SAI emerged as the team champion with 6 golds, 1 silver, and 1 bronze, followed by Lunglei SAI as the runner-up.
In the men’s category, Lunglei SAI clinched the team champion title with 9 golds, 4 silvers, and 1 bronze, while Aizawl SAI took the runner-up position.
The Best Boxer award went to Lalrinngheti of Aizawl SAI in the women’s category and Lalhruaitluanga from Hnahthial in the men’s category.
Hnahthial District won a total of 2 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
