Golden Jubilee Celebration of the World Tamil Research Conference

The World Tamil Research Conference’s Golden Jubilee is being celebrated with great fervor today. Two sessions will be held in the afternoon, featuring discussions on Tamil literature and sociology, with four scholars presenting in each session. Over the last 60 years, this esteemed organization has hosted 11 conferences, promoting Tamil research, culture, and resurgence. Around 150 scholars from across the world have arrived to participate in this grand event. In 1968, the late Perarignar Anna attended the conference, followed by Mu. Karunanidhi in its 20th year, who added prestige to the occasion. This Golden Jubilee is commemorated with numerous discussions on Tamil’s growth, contributions to Tamil literature and society, and the ancient Tamil heritage.

Response to Monkeypox Concerns

Two days ago, a 27-year-old man who arrived from Sharjah was diagnosed with symptoms of fever at Tamil Nadu’s international airports in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, and Trichy. Enhanced screening has been implemented at all international airports, including fever screening systems. Special isolation wards have been set up, with Chennai’s Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital preparing a dedicated 10-bed ward. Recently, a 27-year-old man from Tiruvallur, who was admitted with symptoms, tested negative for monkeypox, and was confirmed to have chickenpox instead.

Post-Diwali Fireworks Injuries

After the Diwali celebrations, 120 medical staff at the Kilpauk Government Hospital provided treatment for burn injuries, with Tamil Nadu seeing mostly minor incidents below 20%. The Chief Minister monitored safety measures statewide, with emergency services on alert. Notably, air quality control measures were successful, resulting in zero fatalities for the third consecutive year.

Preparations for Northeast Monsoon

As the Northeast Monsoon brought heavy rains in Chennai and surrounding areas, including 30 cm in Kodambakkam and 28 cm in Chengalpattu, over 1,000 relief personnel are on standby. Across Tamil Nadu, 1,296 special monsoon camps have been set up, with around 700 medical camps established in Madurai district. Special medical camps are also planned if fever outbreaks occur in any towns or villages.

The event also saw the participation of officials and members of the Anna Alumni Association.
