Voter Awareness Campaign for Navy Personnel at Navy Nagar in Colaba Assembly Constituency

Mumbai : Residents and registered naval personnel of the Indian Navy in the Navy Nagar area of the Colaba Assembly constituency have been urged to actively participate in the upcoming assembly elections and fulfill their democratic duty by voting in large numbers. This appeal was made by Sanjay Yadav, District Collector and Additional District Election Officer for Mumbai City District, during a voter awareness event today.

As part of the voter awareness campaign under the Election Commission of India’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative, a program was conducted for Navy Nagar’s naval personnel at the auditorium of Navy Children School. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Yadav stressed the importance of voter registration and awareness. He pointed out that voter turnout at several polling stations in the Colaba constituency was low during the recent Lok Sabha elections. To improve this in the assembly elections on November 20, 2024, Navy Nagar residents and registered naval personnel must ensure active participation.

He also mentioned that voter lists would be shared with Indian Navy officials, who will help in urging voters to exercise their rights. Door-to-door appeals will be conducted to encourage voting, while special camps will be organized for registering new voters and removing names of those who have moved away. Instructions for these measures were provided to the concerned authorities.

Rishiraj Kohli, Station Commander and Commanding Officer of INS Angre, emphasized that voting is a national duty akin to the oath naval personnel take to serve their country. He urged all naval personnel across departments to actively participate in the democratic process by voting.

Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, SVEEP Coordinator for Mumbai City, highlighted that the campaign’s primary goal is to increase voter awareness, educate citizens about the voting process, and ensure maximum voter participation. He added that the initiative aims to make democracy truly participatory by ensuring the involvement of every voter. Attendees also took a pledge to cast their votes responsibly.

The event saw the presence of Colaba Assembly Constituency Election Officer Mahadev Kirvale, Navy Nagar’s Chief Administrative Officer Captain Jyotirmay Ravi, Pankaj Kumar, and a large number of naval personnel.
