150th Birth Anniversary Celebrated as Tribal Pride Festival in Kotda, Udaipur
Jaipur : Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar remarked that the very mention of Lord Birsa Munda’s name changes the narrative. Despite not reaching the age of 25, his immense and unforgettable contributions to India’s independence, tribal pride, and soil preservation are unparalleled.
The Vice President addressed the Tribal Pride Festival as the chief guest on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda in the remote town of Kotda, Udaipur district. The event was organized under the aegis of the Tribal Area Development Department and Rajasthan Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad.
Shri Dhankhar expressed his happiness that such a revered figure, always remembered with reverence, is being honored today. He highlighted Lord Birsa Munda’s visionary thinking and determination to establish self-governance, encapsulated in the slogan “Aguwa Raj” (Our Rule). He further emphasized Munda’s cultural philosophy, summed up in three words: Water, Forest, and Land.
Calling Birsa Munda the Priest of the Earth and Environment’s Benefactor, he praised his unwavering determination and expressed joy that India is now transforming. He noted the pride in having a tribal woman, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, as the President of India, emphasizing that this is not a favor but a deserved right achieved by the tribal community. He also pointed out that the statue of Birsa Munda in Parliament will always inspire and instill national pride.
Honoring Forgotten Heroes in Amrit Kaal
The Vice President stated that during the freedom struggle, countless individuals contributed, but historians failed to highlight Birsa Munda’s legacy and the sacrifices at Mangarh Dham. He added that during this Amrit Kaal, forgotten heroes of the freedom movement are being honored, and November 15 is celebrated annually as National Tribal Pride Day on Munda’s birth anniversary.
A Life Dedicated to Nationalism
He urged people to learn about Birsa Munda’s life, which was a beacon of nationalism. Highlighting his ideals, Shri Dhankhar called on everyone to uphold nationalism, stating, “Indian identity is our hallmark, Bharat is our mother, nationalism is our religion, and national interest is paramount.” He praised Munda’s teachings on the significance of Water, Forest, and Land and noted the tribal community’s valuable lessons on environmental preservation.
Women’s Role in Policy-Making
The Vice President also highlighted progress in women’s empowerment, mentioning legal reforms ensuring that one-third or more seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies are reserved for women. He stated that at least eight tribal women from Rajasthan will serve in the Assembly, inspiring change in policy-making and governance.
Echoes of Birsa Munda and Bharat Mata
The event began with Vice President Dhankhar leading chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Birsa Munda Amar Rahe.” The crowd enthusiastically joined in. He concluded his speech with a tribute to Lord Birsa Munda, thanking all attendees.
Symbol of Tribal Pride: Khadari
Addressing the event, Rajasthan’s Tribal Regional Development Minister Shri Babulal Khadari described Lord Birsa Munda as a symbol of tribal pride. He lauded the government’s continuous efforts under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership to revive tribal culture and honor their heritage.
The event began with a warm welcome by Shri Satyendra Singh Kharwa, National President of Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, and Shri Bhagwan Sahay, National Co-Organizing Secretary, who shared details about various initiatives for tribal upliftment, women’s empowerment, and comprehensive development of tribal areas.
Honoring Tribal Talents
Vice President Dhankhar honored outstanding tribal individuals, including Dr. Ramlal Meena, Dr. Kanhaiyalal Meena, Dr. Khuman Singh Maida (MBBS doctors), Shri Dilip Singh Bhil (PHED), Engineer Shri Mukesh Damor, and international archers Shri Dhaneshwar Maida and Shri Naresh Damor, with certificates of appreciation.
Tree Plantation in Mother’s Memory
Accompanied by his wife, Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, the Vice President planted saplings in memory of his mother, late Smt. Kesharidevi, and his wife’s mother, late Smt. Bhagwatidevi, as part of the One Tree in Mother’s Name campaign at the Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad campus.
Boosting Morale of Folk Artists
Traditional Gawri dance performances welcomed the Vice President at the venue. Shri Dhankhar actively engaged with the artists, playing the drum and appreciating their performance.
Showcasing Tribal Crafts
The Vice President visited stalls showcasing tribal crafts and forest products by Kamli Tribes, Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, and Rajivika Van Dhan Development Centers. He praised the intricate craftsmanship and environmental products created by tribal women.
