Preparations Underway for the International Paragliding Accuracy Championship 2024 in Serchhip

Serchhip : Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming International Paragliding Accuracy Championship 2024, scheduled to take place in Serchhip from December 9 to 13. This afternoon, Serchhip Deputy Commissioner Pu Paul L. Khuma, along with officials from various government departments, MASA Serchhip Headquarters representatives, and local media, visited the event site at Zawlpui to review readiness.

A preparatory meeting regarding the championship was held yesterday in the DC Meeting Hall, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Pu Paul L. Khuma. During the meeting, discussions focused on ensuring smooth access to the take-off point, with plans to make one road one-way for the event. An alternative route is being prepared by the PWD to facilitate access for vehicles. Serchhip Traffic Police will oversee traffic management, ensuring strict adherence to rules. Ambulance services from the 42nd Assam Rifles and BSF Dawngzawl will be on standby for emergencies, while Assam Rifles and NSS volunteers from Government Serchhip College will assist with first aid and cleanliness duties.

The landing area at Zawlpui Leilet is set to be transformed into a festival zone to enhance the event’s grandeur. The Horticulture Department will set up exhibitions showcasing local produce, flowers, and ornamental plants. Additionally, the Fisheries Department will organize fish-related activities, including live demonstrations and exhibitions. The PHE Department will ensure the availability of clean drinking water and adequate sanitary facilities. Cultural exhibitions featuring traditional Mizo crafts and cuisine will also be part of the festivities. A grand free concert is planned, along with hot air balloon rides, to further attract visitors.

The championship has already confirmed participation from over 60 skilled paragliders, including international pilots from 13 countries, in addition to competitors from across India. Organizers anticipate an impressive turnout for this landmark event in Serchhip.
