CM Pu Lalduhoma Inaugurates The 2nd International Chin Christian Youth Conference
Lawngtlai : The 2nd International Chin Christian Youth Conference (ICCYC) was held at Chandmary Recreation Centre, Lawngtlai. Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma graced the event as the chief guest and officially inaugurated the conference.
In his address, Pu Lalduhoma expressed his gratitude for being invited as the chief guest and extended his warm greetings to all the attendees. Speaking on the theme of the conference, “We are One,” he highlighted the importance of unity in politics and faith. Reflecting on the shared heritage of the Mizos and their neighboring communities, he recounted how their ancestors, led by chiefs, maintained unity even while scattered across different regions. He emphasized the historical significance of the 1892 Chin-Lushai Conference held in Fort William, Kolkata, which aimed to consolidate the Chin and Lushai people under one administration, though the plan faced numerous challenges, leading to the current dispersal of the communities.
The Chief Minister also noted the cultural and ethnic ties among the Lushai, Chin, and Kuki communities, mentioning efforts like the establishment of the Zo Reunification Organization (ZORO) in 1988 and the first-ever World Zo People’s Conference held in Champhai. He stressed the need to overcome divisions and misunderstandings among families and clans, urging everyone to embrace unity. Pointing out the struggles of people separated across Myanmar, Manipur, and Bangladesh, he emphasized the importance of supporting displaced individuals and fostering unity through both political and faith-based initiatives.
Acknowledging the role of the church in promoting unity, he appreciated the formation of the Council of Churches in Mizoram as a significant step toward collaboration among various denominations. He expressed his hope that greater unity would emerge not just within the church but among all Zohnahthlak (Zo ethnic groups). He called on attendees to strive for unity with faith, determination, and a shared sense of purpose, referencing efforts in the United States as an example of unity in diversity.
During the event, the Chief Minister highlighted the ongoing support provided by the government to displaced Zohnahthlak people and stressed the importance of strengthening ties through mutual understanding and cooperation. He concluded by urging participants to contribute to lasting unity in both spirit and action.
The inauguration ceremony featured a vote of thanks and reflections from Rev. B. Zazawna Lai, who expressed gratitude to the attendees and emphasized the significance of the conference.
