Arvind Kejriwal Rules Out Alliance Ahead of Delhi Assembly Elections
New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced on Sunday that his party will not form any alliance for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections in early 2025. Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal made it clear, stating, “There will be no alliance in Delhi for the Assembly elections.”
During the press briefing, Kejriwal also criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah over a recent attack on him during his foot march (padayatra). The AAP leader revealed that a harmful liquid had been thrown at him during the march. While the substance did not cause immediate harm, Kejriwal expressed concern about its potential danger. He said, “I had hoped Amit Shah would take some action after I raised the issue of law and order, but instead, I was attacked during my padayatra. The liquid was harmless, but it could have been harmful.” This incident has raised security concerns as Kejriwal has often been targeted during public appearances.
In addition to discussing the attack, Kejriwal addressed the recent arrest of his party MLA, Naresh Balyan. The former Delhi Chief Minister defended Balyan, stating that he was a victim of extortion attempts. “Our MLA was arrested despite being the victim of a gang that had been threatening him,” Kejriwal explained. He further shared that Balyan had submitted a complaint to the Delhi Police, mentioning calls from Kapil Sangwan and threats from the Nandu gang dating back to May 23, 2023. Kejriwal continued, “For the past few days, I’ve been raising concerns about the worsening law and order in Delhi. As a former Chief Minister, I feel people now live in fear. Delhi has become a playground for miscreants.”
Kejriwal’s concerns also extended to the growing criminal activities in Delhi, including incidents of open firing and attacks on women. He reiterated his call for the Union Home Minister to focus on improving the law and order situation in Delhi instead of targeting him. In a social media post, Kejriwal questioned, “Amit Shah, what will happen if you stop me? Will crime in Delhi stop? Will the safety of women and traders be ensured?”
