Solar Sujala Yojana is improving the economic condition of farmers, it is also a positive step for the environment
One of the important schemes being run by CREDA in the field of renewable energy in the state is “Saur Sujala Yojana”, which aims to provide solar pumps to farmers for irrigation. Through this scheme, farmers are taking advantage of cheap and clean energy source by avoiding the use of expensive fuel like diesel in the absence of electricity. This scheme has proved to be a boon for the farmers of Mahasamund district. About 5649 farmers here have taken advantage of this scheme. This scheme has gained tremendous popularity among the farmers. Currently, for the financial year 2023-24, a target of 650 solar pumps has been allotted to the district under this scheme, against which solar pumps have been installed.
Earlier, farmers who had water sources but lacked electricity for irrigation or had to resort to expensive diesel pumps have now been provided with solar pumps. This has not only reduced their expenses but also their agricultural work continues uninterrupted. Through solar pumps, farmers have now started irrigating crops in a cheaper and easier way. In particular, farmers who used to depend on rain no longer have to face water shortage. This increased crop production in their fields and improved the economic condition. Earlier, farmers had to spend lakhs of rupees for conventional electricity connection, and even then the supply of electricity was always uncertain. Through solar pumps, farmers have got freedom from dependence on electricity and are now getting a stable, clean and cheap energy. This scheme is not only improving the economic condition of the farmers but is also a positive step for the environment, as it uses clean energy.
Mr. Muktidas Sao, a farmer of Shankarpur village under Pithora block of the district, said that he has installed a 3 HP solar pump. Due to which the cost of irrigation has reduced and the crop production has also increased. Mr. Sao says that he is able to cultivate paddy and maize well in his field. He has got a profit of 55 thousand in a short time from maize cultivation.
