CM Revanth Reddy Emphasizes a Green Hyderabad Initiative
Darabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy unveiled plans to transform Hyderabad into a pollution-free city, announcing measures to phase out diesel vehicles and promote cleaner alternatives. Addressing the Praja Palna event organized by the Transport Department, he declared that diesel autos would soon be restricted within ORR limits, urging auto drivers to switch to electric vehicles. Additionally, the government plans to replace 3,000 diesel buses in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) fleet with electric buses within the next two years.
Highlighting the impact of government schemes, the Chief Minister shared the success of the free bus travel initiative for women. Over the past 11 months, 1.15 crore women have availed themselves of the scheme, significantly benefitting both passengers and TGSRTC employees. “Each woman has saved between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000 through this initiative,” he noted.
Revanth Reddy further elaborated on welfare measures, including free electricity for families consuming up to 200 units, saving them approximately Rs 800 monthly. Subsidized cooking gas cylinders are also being provided at Rs 500, ensuring an average monthly benefit of Rs 10,000 for underprivileged households.
Addressing farmers, the Chief Minister urged them to focus on cultivating high-quality paddy varieties, stating that the government plans to distribute superior rice through ration shops, mid-day meal programs, and government hostels. “We are determined to eliminate the rice recycling mafia and ensure Telangana-grown rice benefits its people,” he affirmed.
Reiterating his commitment to combating air pollution, Revanth announced the Musi rejuvenation project, which aims to link the Godavari with the Musi River. He emphasized the importance of tough measures to tackle Hyderabad’s air quality issues.
Taking a dig at former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Revanth accused him of hypocrisy for discouraging paddy cultivation in the state while cultivating 150 acres of paddy at his Gajwel farmhouse. He alleged that KCR sold the crop to Kaveri Seeds for Rs 4,200 per quintal.
