Prime Minister pays homage to martyrs of the 2001 Parliament attack
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, December 13, paid homage to the victims of the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament, commemorating its 23rd anniversary. He emphasized the nation’s eternal gratitude for their courage and sacrifice.

PM Modi attended a memorial event held in the Parliament complex to honor those who lost their lives. During the attack, carried out by terrorist groups based in Pakistan, eight security personnel and a gardener sacrificed their lives to protect the nation. All five terrorists involved in the assault were neutralized by law enforcement.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, “Paid homage to those martyred in the 2001 Parliament attack. Their sacrifice will forever inspire our nation. We remain eternally grateful for their courage and dedication.”
The tragic incident, which unfolded on December 13, 2001, remains a dark chapter in Indian history. Five heavily armed terrorists infiltrated the Parliament complex in New Delhi, triggering a fierce gunfight. The attack claimed the lives of six Delhi Police officers, two members of the Parliament Security Service, and a gardener, while many others sustained injuries. The swift response of security forces prevented further devastation.
The anniversary serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the security personnel to safeguard India’s democracy. Their bravery continues to inspire the nation to stand united against terrorism.
