Certification of traditional Vaidyas is being done in Chhattisgarh
The Chhattisgarh State Biodiversity Board is taking the initiative of certification of traditional Vaidyas for the preservation of traditional medical practices in the state and documentation of the use and importance of medicinal plants. This information was given in the International Symposium on Medicinal Plants held in Dehradun.
Dr. Devyani Sharma, Program Coordinator at Chhattisgarh Climate Change Center, who participated in the seminar on behalf of Chhattisgarh state, told that in Chhattisgarh, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Chhattisgarh State Biodiversity Board is taking initiative for certification of traditional Vaidyas in Chhattisgarh in collaboration with Quality Council of India and Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology University, Bangalore. She told that in this survey, medical practices of more than 100 traditional Vaidyas of Bastar, Durg and Dhamtari regions have been documented.
Dr. Devyani Sharma informed that on the initiative of Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, space has been provided to Vaidyas to treat patients in Sanjeevani centers run by the Forest Department in Chhattisgarh and some Vaidyas are also being paid remuneration for their services. She also mentioned Padma Shri Vaidyaraj Hemchand Manjhi and said that Shri Manjhi has made a significant contribution in the field of traditional health services in Narayanpur district for the last five decades. She said that traditional methods have not only proved their usefulness in treating serious diseases, but they also strengthen cultural identity and community unity.
It is noteworthy that in line with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to promote traditional medicine system, this symposium was organized by the National Medicinal Plants Board under the Ministry of AYUSH as part of the 10th World Ayurveda Congress with the objective of promoting safe and effective use of traditional medicine systems and for research, standardization and regulation.
