Aizawl : In a significant step towards transforming Mizoram’s agricultural landscape, Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma officially launched the Mizoram Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission today at Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall, Aizawl. The event was graced by Pu Lalthansanga, Minister for Land Resources, Soil & Water Conservation, as the Guest of Honour.

In his address, Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma acknowledged the challenges Mizoram’s farmers have faced with previous crop and plantation initiatives, which often led to disappointment and eroded trust in government programs. He emphasized the immense potential of rubber, a globally high-demand crop, to offer sustainable income opportunities while contributing to environmental conservation. The Chief Minister assured attendees that the mission is meticulously planned to utilize Mizoram’s arable land effectively and transform the state into a significant rubber production hub.

To ensure the success of the mission, key officials conducted comprehensive studies by visiting Tripura, Kerala, and the Rubber Board of India, gaining valuable insights and expertise.

Guest of Honour Pu Lalthansanga, Minister for Land Resources, praised the Chief Minister’s visionary initiative. He revealed that the mission was conceptualized after extensive consultations with Dr. Sawar Dhanania, Chairman of the Rubber Board of India. He assured that the nodal department is fully equipped to execute the program efficiently and deliver tangible benefits to farmers.

The Rubber Mission, set to begin in the 2025-26 financial year, aims to cultivate 1,000 hectares annually, directly benefiting 1,000 farmers each year. The first phase of the mission, spanning four years, targets the development of 4,000 hectares of land.

A significant highlight of the event was Smt. Pankaja Borah, General Manager of NABARD’s Mizoram Regional Office, presenting a sanction letter of ₹27.98 crore for the mission’s initial phase. The funds will cover implementation across seven districts in the state.

The Mizoram Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission reflects the state government’s commitment to economic empowerment and environmental sustainability, marking a new chapter in Mizoram’s agricultural progress and providing long-term benefits for farmers.
