Minister Aditi Tatkare to Represent Maharashtra at the GST Council; Reviews GST Details with Officials

Nagpur : Minister Aditi Tatkare will represent the state of Maharashtra at the GST Council meeting scheduled to be held in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, in December 2024. Ahead of the council meeting, Minister Tatkare conducted a detailed review of GST-related matters with officials during a meeting held at the Vidhan Bhavan.

Present at the meeting were State Tax Commissioner Ashish Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Sales Tax Kiran Shinde, Deputy Commissioner of Sales Tax Nandkumar Dighe, and other officials.


During the meeting, Minister Tatkare reviewed the suggestions previously made by Maharashtra at earlier GST Council meetings, new recommendations to be proposed, exemptions to be provided to various industries and sectors, simplification of the tax structure, and clarification of taxpayer definitions. Discussions were held on granting tax exemptions to sectors such as electric vehicles, insurance premiums, and agricultural products. The minister also examined matters related to tax reductions or hikes in specific sectors and their impact on revenue.

The GST Council meeting will be held over two days, on December 20 and 21, 2024, in Jaisalmer. Additionally, a meeting regarding the state budget expectations will also take place during the council session. This topic was discussed in detail during the review meeting.
