CM Stalin Approves ₹177.85 Cr for 34 Rural Bridges in Tamil Nadu
The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin, has issued an order for the construction of 34 high-level bridges at a total estimated cost of ₹177.85 crores in 18 districts under the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department. The necessary government order for this initiative was issued on December 17, 2024, and the construction work is set to commence immediately.
Under the 2024-25 Tamil Nadu State Financial Plan, the government aims to enhance rural infrastructure and improve the living standards of its people. As part of this commitment, the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department will implement projects focusing on basic amenities such as roads, bridges, streetlights, drinking water facilities, and sanitation. Additionally, the government will invest in developing schools, anganwadis, rural service centers, and warehouses, thus ensuring comprehensive rural development.
The approved bridges, totaling 1,977.20 meters in length, are prioritized based on petitions submitted under the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme, areas affected by floods, and regions lacking adequate connectivity. The government has allocated the necessary funds, and the construction of these 34 bridges will take place in various districts, including:
- Karur District: A bridge in Sikkaripalayam-Karupparayan Nagar at ₹2.83 crore.
- Cuddalore District: A bridge at Thirumamur Panchayat in Panruti Taluk over Malattar River at ₹8.13 crore.
- Dindigul District: A bridge at Mailur Panchayat over Kudakanaru River at ₹8.52 crore.
- Dharmapuri District: A bridge at Pappireddipatti Taluk over Nallangupallam at ₹3.83 crore.
- Erode District: A bridge at Anthiyur Taluk over Sellapooramman Odai at ₹5.12 crore.

Other districts such as Madurai, Namakkal, Salem, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Tanjore, Thoothukudi, Trichy, and Virudhunagar will also see similar projects, with specific allocations for each. These bridges will greatly improve connectivity in rural areas, ensuring smoother transport and access.
This ambitious project underscores the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to positioning itself as a national leader in rural development. Construction work on these bridges will begin immediately, contributing to sustainable growth and infrastructure in the state.
