District Administration Urged to Be Vigilant Against Cold Wave

Amravati : The Meteorological Department has forecast stormy winds, rain, and a cold wave in Vidarbha on December 27 and 28. In response, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Nidhi Pandey has directed the district administration to remain vigilant and ensure readiness. She emphasized that emergency response planning must enable rescue teams to reach affected areas without delay.

A detailed review meeting to assess district-level measures for adverse weather conditions was held on December 24 in the Divisional Commissioner’s office. Collectors from all five districts of the division participated virtually, along with Assistant Commissioner Vaishali Pathre, Tehsildar Sarang Dhomse, and other officials.

Dr. Pandey instructed the District Disaster Management Authorities to implement measures to protect citizens from the cold wave. She highlighted the importance of public awareness campaigns through newspapers, informing citizens about safety measures during cyclones and cold waves. Efforts should also focus on safeguarding people, livestock, and agricultural crops.

She stressed that district-level control rooms must operate 24/7 to provide immediate rescue assistance. Contact information for zonal, taluka control rooms, and rescue teams should be shared with all concerned personnel. Additionally, disaster response teams, including “disaster friends” and “disaster sakhis,” should be trained to create awareness at the village level.

Fire department teams must be prepared to address damage caused by stormy winds, such as uprooted trees and road blockages. Health systems should be ready to handle emergencies related to unseasonal rains, cold waves, and lightning strikes. The power distribution company should also ensure prompt restoration of electricity in case of outages.

District search and rescue teams should be equipped with necessary resources and be operational round the clock. Dr. Pandey instructed the administration to take all necessary steps to mitigate the impact of the impending weather conditions.
