Unveiling of the Maharashtra District Good Governance Index Report
Good governance will strengthen the path to a $1 trillion economy – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai : A state’s progress depends on its ‘Ease of Living.’ Therefore, the government is prioritizing efforts to improve the ‘Ease of Living’ across Maharashtra. The efficiency of governance is reflected in how promptly citizens receive various services. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence that good governance would pave the way for achieving a $1 trillion economy.
At Sahyadri Guest House, the Maharashtra District Good Governance Index 2024 report was unveiled by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The event was attended by Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikas Kharge, Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning Department Rajgopal Deora, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department Rajesh Kumar, Principal Secretary Ashwini Bhide, Secretary Srikar Pardeshi, Principal Secretary of Higher and Technical Education Vikaschandra Rastogi, Principal Secretary of the Forest Department Venu Gopal Reddy, Agriculture Secretary Jayshree Bhoj, Skill Development Secretary Ganesh Patil, Finance Secretary Shaila A., and Director of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics Krishna Phirke, along with Deputy Director Savita Dixit. U. Srinivas, Secretary of the Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances Department of the Central Government, addressed the event through a video conferencing system.
Chief Minister Fadnavis said the District Good Governance Index, developed in collaboration with the Central Government, showcases the scope of governance across various sectors based on specific parameters. This extensive index is not merely a ranking system but also a tool for identifying areas of improvement. Previously, the government introduced the “Apale Sarkar” portal to resolve citizens’ complaints, emphasizing citizen-centered governance. The gap between high-scoring and low-scoring districts in the Good Governance Index has narrowed, indicating progress across all districts.
The index is based on 161 parameters across 10 developmental sectors. The Chief Minister congratulated district administrations that performed well and urged districts needing improvement to elevate their performance. He also instructed guardian secretaries to monitor and enhance underperforming districts.
Top Five Districts by Sector in the Good Governance Index:
Agriculture and Allied Sectors: Amravati, Washim, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Latur, Parbhani.
Commerce and Industry: Mumbai City, Raigad, Pune, Palghar, Thane.
Human Resource Development: Nashik, Gondia, Pune, Yavatmal, Satara.
Public Health: Sindhudurg, Mumbai Suburban, Palghar, Beed, Ratnagiri.
Infrastructure: Latur, Nashik, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Hingoli.
Social Development: Gondia, Amravati, Nashik, Dhule, Nagpur.
Economic Governance: Mumbai Suburban, Mumbai City, Raigad, Jalgaon, Bhandara.
Judiciary and Security: Mumbai Suburban, Mumbai City, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Raigad.
Environment: Sangli, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Solapur, Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban.
Citizen-Centric Administration: Nashik, Washim, Yavatmal, Buldhana, Amravati.
