Appeal to Install High-Security Number Plates on Old Vehicles
Mumbai : The Supreme Court has directed that all vehicles must be equipped with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP). Accordingly, the State Government has decided to mandate HSRP installation for vehicles manufactured before April 1, 2019. Such vehicles must have this registration plate, while vehicles purchased after April 1, 2019, already come with manufacturer-installed HSRP, exempting these owners from reinstallation.
Installing high-security registration plates is essential for safety purposes. These plates help in identifying vehicles on the road, preventing tampering and forgery, and reducing vehicle-related crimes. Vehicle owners are urged to register for the installation of HSRP through the Transport Department’s official website, https://transport.maharashtra.gov.in.
The Transport Department has appointed three companies to carry out the installation, and it is mandatory to use their services. Number plates installed by unauthorized vendors will not be recorded in the Central Government’s database. Online registration for the installation of HSRP must be completed by March 31, 2025.
For any difficulties, complaints, or queries regarding the process, vehicle owners can contact the Transport Department through the portal or via email at dytccomp.tpt-mh@gov.in, as stated by Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar.
