MLA Pu Jeje Lalpekhlua Inaugurates The Mla Running Trophy Hockey Tournament Final, Hnahthial, 2025
Hnahthial : Today, the final match of the MLA Running Trophy Hockey Tournament for men and women, organized by the Hnahthial District Hockey Association (HDHA), took place. The event was graced by South Tuipui MLA Pu Jeje Lalpekhlua as the chief guest.
In his address, Pu Jeje Lalpekhlua expressed his gratitude to the HDHA for their dedication in organizing this tournament after a long hiatus. He stated that hockey is not only a sport but also a viable career path, emphasizing its importance for personal and community development. He also acknowledged the participation of young women in the district, highlighting their contributions to the sport and encouraging others to follow their example.
He further urged the continuation of hockey as a means to inspire and foster talent across all communities. He remarked, “Success comes with perseverance and hard work. Let us remain committed to achieving our goals.”
Pu Jeje Lalpekhlua emphasized the government’s support for athletes and the importance of nurturing talent from even the most remote villages. He encouraged the community to organize more such events and highlighted the need for learning additional languages like Hindi and English to compete on larger platforms. He also stressed the importance of consuming educational content on platforms like YouTube and avoiding distractions.
According to the HDHA Secretary’s report, this year’s tournament marks 15 years since the first Hnahthial Hockey Tournament was organized. The Secretary expressed heartfelt gratitude to MLA Pu Jeje Lalpekhlua for his unwavering support in making the tournament possible.
In the women’s final, Electric and Tuipui ‘D’ faced off. After a 2-2 tie in regular play, the match was decided by a penalty shootout, with Tuipui ‘D’ emerging as champions.
In the men’s final, Electric North ‘A’ competed against Peniel, resulting in a 1-1 draw during regular play. Electric North ‘A’ secured victory through penalties and were crowned champions.
Individual awards were also distributed:
- In the women’s category, Lalrinfeli Pautu was named Top Scorer, while *Lalawmpuii of Tuipui ‘D’ won the Best Player award.
- In the men’s category, Roluahpuia of Electric North was the Top Scorer, and F. Zoremsanga of Electric North was awarded Best Player.
