Health Authorities Must Coordinate Efforts to Address Guillain-Barré Syndrome – Minister of Medical Education Madhuri Misal
Mumbai : Cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) have been reported in the areas of Khadakwasla, Nanded City, Nanded Village, and Kirkatwadi in Pune. Preliminary reports indicate that the disease is linked to contaminated water. Government hospitals are fully equipped to provide treatment, and the state government is taking priority measures to address the issue. Minister of Medical Education Madhuri Misal has instructed the health department and municipal health authorities to coordinate their efforts effectively.
Kamala Nehru Hospital, under the Pune Municipal Corporation, is prepared to treat GBS cases, and the financial aid limit for medical assistance has been increased from ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh. The minister also stated that a nodal officer has been appointed to oversee the situation. The Pune Municipal Corporation has completed a survey of 65,000 households and ensured the availability of IVIG injections for treatment. Minister Madhuri Misal urged citizens not to panic and advised them to boil water before consumption.
