Need for Excellent Law Colleges to Nurture Impartial Legal Experts – CM Devendra Fadnavis

Inauguration of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Law College’s Centenary Celebrations in Nagpur

Nagpur : In a democratic system, the rule of law holds the highest significance. The judiciary remains the most trusted pillar of democracy, and it is essential to maintain this trust. For that, highly competent lawyers are needed, which in turn requires excellent law colleges and experienced faculty, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

He was speaking at the centenary celebrations of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Law College. The event was attended by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal, Minister of State Indranil Naik, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Prashant Bokare, Justice V.S. Sirpurkar, Principal Dr. Ravishankar Mor, and Registrar Dr. Raju Hiwse.

CM Fadnavis expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Law College for its role in shaping his career. “The knowledge imparted by my teachers here has helped me shoulder key responsibilities, from being an MLA to the Chief Minister. Understanding legal concepts clearly is crucial for a legislator, and this foundation helped me earn the Best Parliamentarian Award in my first term,” he said.

Embracing Technological Advancements in Legal Education

He highlighted that the definition of knowledge is evolving rapidly with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), posing a challenge for all fields, including law. The legal system must effectively integrate these technological advancements to improve efficiency. “For a strong judicial system, we need exceptional lawyers, which demands quality law institutions and skilled faculty. I had the opportunity to establish three top-tier law schools in Maharashtra. With Justice Sirpurkar’s initiative, we were able to set up a National Law School here,” he added.

Government Support for the College’s Development

CM Fadnavis assured full government support for the new infrastructure of the century-old college, ensuring no shortcomings. “As an alumnus, attending this event fills me with immense joy,” he said.

Strengthening Democracy Through Timely Justice

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized that the core values of democracy lie in the Constitution’s fundamental principles, which guarantee justice for all. He stressed the importance of delivering justice on time to strengthen democracy. “A strong educational institution thrives on a threefold foundation—awareness, training, and research. Efficient use of modern technology in legal processes can significantly reduce the backlog of cases,” he noted.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Prashant Bokare acknowledged the college’s distinguished alumni who have served as judges. “A great educational institution reflects the prosperity of society,” he said. The event began with an introductory speech by Principal Dr. Ravishankar Mor.
