Atishi Alleges Violence, Money, and Liquor Distribution in Kalkaji, Seeks Enhanced Security

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Atishi has accused political opponents of violating the Model Code of Conduct in the Kalkaji Assembly constituency, alleging widespread distribution of money and liquor to influence voters. In a letter to the Returning Officer of Kalkaji, she demanded enhanced security, including round-the-clock patrolling, to ensure a free and fair election.

Atishi claimed that cash and liquor were being distributed in several camp areas, particularly Nehru Camp, Navjivan Camp, Transit Camp A and B, and Pocket A14, Kalkaji. She further alleged that these activities were accompanied by incidents of violence, creating an atmosphere of fear among voters.

Allegations of Violence and Intimidation

In her complaint, Atishi highlighted a violent incident that took place on January 27 at around 11:30 PM, where a resident of Nehru Camp named Rohit was allegedly abducted and assaulted by known anti-social elements. She claimed that the attackers, armed with guns and axes, issued threats and physically assaulted him. A complaint regarding this incident has been lodged, and Atishi attached the Medical Legal Certificate (MLC) report as evidence.

She further alleged that some of the assailants were later seen with Delhi Police constable Jai Bhagwan, raising concerns about possible complicity between law enforcement and these elements.

Another violent incident was reported on the morning of January 28, when a resident of Navjivan Camp, Abhishek, and his aunt were allegedly attacked with an iron rod. Atishi stated that Abhishek was dragged into a room in Hanuman Park, where he was brutally beaten.

Demand for Increased Security Measures

Expressing serious concern over these incidents, Atishi stressed the urgent need for increased deployment of paramilitary forces, particularly in the slum areas of Kalkaji. She urged authorities to ensure voters could exercise their franchise without fear in the upcoming elections.

Her letter specifically requested:

  • Deployment of additional paramilitary forces in high-risk areas of Kalkaji.
  • Round-the-clock patrolling in affected neighborhoods to deter criminal activities.
  • Strict monitoring of law enforcement officers to prevent collusion with anti-social elements.

“We once again request you to issue necessary instructions to the concerned authorities at the earliest,” Atishi wrote in her letter. Copies of the complaint were also sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East), Sarita Vihar, and the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, at Kashmere Gate.

Political Battle Heats Up Ahead of Elections

With the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5 and vote counting on February 8, the political contest in the capital has intensified. The AAP, BJP, and Congress are locked in a heated battle, trading accusations over electoral misconduct.

The Congress, once a dominant force in Delhi politics, has struggled in recent years, failing to secure a single seat in the last two assembly elections. Meanwhile, AAP secured a landslide victory in 2020, winning 62 of the 70 seats, while the BJP managed only eight.

As election day nears, security concerns and allegations of malpractice have further escalated tensions, with all eyes on the Election Commission’s response to Atishi’s complaints.
