Malda Division Boosts Rail Safety with RH Girder Launch and Flood Mitigation Measures
Eastern Railway’s Malda Division, under the leadership of Divisional Railway Manager, Shri Manish Kumar Gupta, continues to enhance railway infrastructure for safer and seamless operations. In a significant engineering feat, the division successfully launched an RH (Restricted Height) Girder at km 280/8-9 between Ekchari and Ghoga stations between Bhagalpur – Kahalgaon Section in connection with an additional opening.

This critical work, which was a part of the Malda Division’s broader endeavour in the devastating flood mitigation strategy minimising disruption in train operations while significantly improving track safety, especially during monsoons, was executed efficiently during a scheduled block from 01:00 hours to 05:00 hours, completing the process within just four hours.
The division has planned seven additional RCC box bridges between Kahalgaon and Jamalpur, where the Ganges runs closest to the railway track, making it vulnerable to breaches during monsoons. Out of these, five have already been completed — two (02) between Lailakh Memalka and Sabour and three (03) in the Sultan Ganj –Jamalpur section.
The RH girder launched today marks the sixth such opening, with placement using the air – pushing method to ensure precision. The entire bridge installation will be completed within a week, with meticulously planned short duration blocks of 03 to 04 hours.
Malda Division remains committed to proactive infrastructure development, ensuring safer and more resilient railway operations for passengers and freight movement.
