Eastern Railways has proudly announced the opening of a Modern Ladies RPF Barrack at Kolkata Station

In a significant step towards enhancing the welfare and working conditions of female RPF personnel, a state-of-the-art 30 – bedded Ladies RPF Barrack was opened on Saturday (01.02.2025) at Kolkata Station. The facility was officially inaugurated by Mrs. Seema Deouskar, President of the Eastern Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (ERWWO), in presence of Mr. Milind Deouskar, General Manager of Eastern Railway.

Mr. Vikram Gupta, Principal Chief Engineer, Mr. Paramshiv, IG – cum – Principal Chief Security Commissioner, Mr. S. P. Singh, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer & Dr. Uday Shankar Jha, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Eastern Railway were also present.

This newly constructed barrack aligning with Eastern Railway’s commitment to promoting gender equality, employee welfare, and a safer work environment, is designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and well – equipped environment for female RPF personnel, acknowledging their tireless efforts in maintaining security and order at railway stations. There are a total of 18 rooms, equipped with modern amenities, including a gymnasium. The facility aims to ensure that women in the Railway Protection Force have a secure place to rest and rejuvenate after their demanding shifts.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Milind Deouskar, General Manager emphasised the importance of improving working conditions for female personnel. Lady RPF personnel work relentlessly to ensure passenger safety. This modern barrack is a small yet significant step towards recognizing their dedication and providing them with a space where they can rest and recharge comfortably.

The project was spearheaded under the leadership of Mr. Deepak Nigam, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Sealdah, whose vision and guidance played a crucial role in the successful completion of this initiative. Additionally, the dedicated efforts of key officials, including Mr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner (Sr. DSC), Sealdah; Mr. Sachin Suman, Senior Divisional Engineer / Co-ordination (Sr. DEN / Co.), Sealdah and Mr. Abhay Kr. Singh, Senior Divisional Engineer – 1 (Sr. DEN – 1), Sealdah were instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.

The barrack ensures ease of commuting for female RPF personnel, strategically located near Kolkata Station which is the only International Terminal in Eastern Railway. This initiative sets a benchmark for similar projects in the future, reinforcing the commitment of Eastern Railway to the well-being of its employees.
