New Delhi : Seven newborn babies tragically lost their lives after a fire broke out at a baby care center in Delhi’s Shahdara, as confirmed by the police on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), Surendra Chaudhary, reported that a police control room call regarding the fire was received around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday at Vivek Vihar police station. Upon arrival, the police found the fire had engulfed both the hospital and its adjacent building.
Chaudhary stated, “In the hospital, there were 12 newborn babies admitted, and one had tragically already passed away before the fire incident. All 12 newborns were rescued with the help of bystanders and transported to East Delhi Advance NICU Hospital for treatment.” Fire tenders promptly arrived and extinguished the flames, but sadly, seven children had already lost their lives, while five others are currently receiving medical care.
Delhi Fire Service Chief, Atul Garg, confirmed the casualties, stating, “All seven deceased infants have been transferred to GTB Hospital for postmortem examinations.” Legal action is being pursued against the hospital owner, Naveen Kichi, a resident of Bhairon Enclave, Paschim Vihar, Delhi, as per the DCP’s statement.
