India Clinches Back-to-Back Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup Titles
New Delhi: The cricket fraternity showered praise on the Indian Women’s Under-19 team for clinching the prestigious Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025. In a highly anticipated clash between two unbeaten teams, India successfully defended their title with a commanding nine-wicket victory over South Africa at the Bayoumas Oval on Sunday. While the South African players were left heartbroken, shedding tears after the loss, India’s triumph was met with jubilant celebrations.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant lauded the young champions on social media, calling their victory an “incredible achievement.” He wrote on X, “Congratulations to the Women’s Under-19 team on winning the T20 World Cup. An incredible achievement!” Former cricketer Irfan Pathan also extended his congratulations, posting, “India won… Congratulations to the Women’s India Under-19 team for winning the World Cup.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acknowledged the team’s stellar performance, highlighting the depth of talent in Indian women’s cricket. BCCI stated on X, “Winning the World Cup for the second time in a row showcases India’s immense talent pool. With pay parity under Mr. Jay Shah’s tenure, the Tata WPL, and a strong age-group structure, the Board remains committed to supporting women’s cricket.”
India’s victory was built on an exceptional bowling display, as they restricted South Africa to a mere 82 runs in the first innings. The Indian bowlers maintained relentless pressure, ensuring their opponents never gained momentum.
In response, India’s top order took an aggressive approach, scoring 18 runs in the first two overs without losing a wicket. Even after the loss of opener G Kamalin in the final over of the powerplay, the momentum remained firmly in India’s favor. Gongdi Trisha (44*) and Sanika Chalake (26*) guided the chase confidently, sealing the victory with more than eight overs to spare.
Gongdi Trisha was the standout performer of the tournament, earning both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards. Her remarkable all-round performance saw her score 309 runs and claim seven wickets throughout the tournament, playing a crucial role in India’s back-to-back World Cup triumphs.
With this emphatic victory, India reaffirmed its dominance in women’s Under-19 cricket, inspiring the next generation of young cricketers.
