Atishi Appeals to Voters to Support AAP in Delhi Assembly Elections
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Atishi made a passionate appeal to voters on Wednesday, urging them to come out and vote in the ongoing assembly elections in the national capital. In a post on @AAP, Atishi emphasized that the Delhi elections are not just about choosing leaders, but about fighting for a greater cause. She described the election as a “dharma yuddha,” a battle between good and evil, between work and hooliganism. She called on the people of Delhi to cast their votes, urging them to vote for “kaam” (work) and goodness, stating, “Truth will prevail.”
AAP’s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, also made a heartfelt appeal to the voters. Kejriwal reminded Delhiites that their vote is not just a button to press; it is the foundation for their children’s bright future. He urged voters to seize the opportunity to provide every family with good schools, top-notch hospitals, and a dignified life. Kejriwal stressed the importance of defeating politics rooted in lies, hatred, and fear, and letting truth, development, and honesty emerge victorious. He encouraged voters to vote themselves and inspire their family, friends, and neighbors to do the same.
Voting began at 7 am on Wednesday for all 70 assembly seats in Delhi, with polling set to continue until 6 pm. The elections are taking place under tight security, as the capital witnesses intense participation. The constituencies of New Delhi and Jangpura are among the most contested. AAP, which currently holds more than 60 seats in the 70-member assembly, is seeking re-election based on its achievements during its previous term.
In New Delhi, the contest is a high-profile triangular battle between AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal, BJP’s Parvesh Verma, and Congress’ Sandeep Dixit, the son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dixit. In Jangpura, AAP’s Manish Sisodia faces competition from Congress’ Farhad Suri and BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah. A total of 699 candidates are contesting for the 70 assembly seats in Delhi.
Delhi has a total of 1,56,14,000 registered voters, including 83,76,173 men, 72,36,560 women, and 1,267 third-gender voters. Among them are 2,39,905 first-time voters aged 18-19 years, 1,09,368 elderly voters aged 85 years and above, and 79,885 persons with disabilities, making this election a significant moment for various segments of the population.
