Centenary Celebration of Ayya Narayanasamy Naidu

Congratulatory Message from Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin

I pay my heartfelt tribute to Ayya Narayanasamy Naidu, a noble leader who dedicated his life to the welfare of farmers, on the occasion of his centenary.

Born in 1925, Narayanasamy Naidu devoted his entire life to the upliftment of farmers. Until his passing in 1984, he remained a committed advocate for the farming community. As a social agrarian leader, he strongly believed that farmers could only progress if they united. With this vision, he dedicated himself to organizing farmers and strengthening their collective voice.

In 1968, he founded the Kodai Vattam Farmers’ Movement, which later expanded into the Kodai District Movement and, by 1970, evolved into the Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Movement. For years, he tirelessly fought for farmers’ rights, demonstrating his unwavering commitment through his activism and leadership.

His relentless efforts led to the formation of farmers’ unions in multiple states across India. In 1980, he initiated the creation of a national-level farmers’ federation, bringing together various agrarian organizations. His advocacy played a pivotal role in establishing the All India Farmers and Agricultural Workers Party in 1982.

Narayanasamy Naidu also spearheaded the fight against electricity charges for farmers during the AIADMK government. Later, in 1989, when Kalaignar Karunanidhi became the Chief Minister, he fulfilled Ayya’s dream by announcing free electricity for farmers.

Another significant cause he championed was the waiver of bank loans for farmers who were unable to repay them. In line with his demand, the Karunanidhi-led government waived ₹7,000 crore in cooperative bank loans, turning Narayanasamy Naidu’s vision into reality.

Dedicated entirely to farmers’ welfare, Narayanasamy Naidu passed away on December 21, 1984, while addressing a gathering of farmers in Kaavundampalayam, making the ultimate sacrifice for their cause.

To commemorate his centenary, his memorial is being constructed between Thudiyalur and Kaavundampalayam. Additionally, the NGO Colony railway station is being named in his honor, and a centenary memorial hall is set to be established in his birthplace.

I take immense pride and joy in announcing these tributes, ensuring that his legacy endures.

Glory to the memory of Ayya Narayanasamy Naidu!
May his dreams for farmers be fulfilled!
