Honorable Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin today (February 9, 2025) inaugurated the Trichy Pigeon Park, constructed at a cost of ₹18.63 crore under the Namakku Naame scheme in the Ayyalamman Padithurai area of Tiruchirappalli district, within the Kambarasampettai Panchayat of Andanallur Union.
A Major Tourist Attraction in Trichy
Tiruchirappalli district, located in the central part of Tamil Nadu, is well-connected by road and rail, making it easily accessible from all parts of the state. The district is home to several renowned tourist destinations, with the Kaveri River flowing through the region. The river splits into two branches—Kaveri and Kollidam—near Mukkombu, a well-known historic and tourist site.
As part of the Namakku Naame scheme, initiated under the directive of Honorable Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, the Trichy Pigeon Park was constructed on a 4.02-acre land in the Ayyalamman Padithurai area. The project commenced in December 2023 and has now been successfully completed. The park is located just two kilometers from the Trichy Central Bus Stand, making it a convenient and attractive destination for visitors.
A Unique Attraction Showcasing Nature and Avian Beauty
The Trichy Pigeon Park covers an area of 60,000 square feet and highlights the five ecological zones of Tamil Nadu—Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, Neithal, and Palai—with dedicated enclosures showcasing the landscapes and species associated with these regions. The park houses hundreds of pigeons of various species, each displayed in uniquely designed enclosures.
Some of the prominent pigeon breeds showcased in the park include:
- Frill Back, Pomeranian Pouter, Shield Pouter, Scandaroon, Diamond Dove, Long Face Tumbler, Maltese, Oriental Frill, Spanish Chorrera, Jacobin, Modena, Short Face, Beauty Homer, Neck Shaker, Carrier Pigeon, Magpie Pouter, King, and Archangel.
Additionally, the park features exotic and colorful birds such as parrots, macaws, emus, ducks, lovebirds, and finches, displayed in separate enclosures. Rabbits and Koi fish ponds have also been included to enhance the park’s appeal, especially for children.
Special Attractions and 7D Mini Theater
A 7D mini-theater has been installed at the park, offering immersive visual experiences. The theater is designed to make visitors feel wind, water, and vibrations, enhancing their sensory experience. It has a seating capacity of 50 people per session and is expected to be a major highlight of the park.
A New Landmark for Tourists and Nature Enthusiasts
The Trichy Pigeon Park is not just a first-of-its-kind pigeon aviary in India but also a dedicated space for avian research and conservation. It has been designed to cater to nature lovers, pet enthusiasts, students, and families, making it a significant addition to Tamil Nadu’s tourism landscape.
