19 TB cases detected during 100-day intensive campaign at Mahakumbh

Mahakumbh Nagar : Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the 100-day intensive TB campaign is being actively implemented at Mahakumbh. The Central Hospital in the Mela area conducts AI-powered Truenat testing for early detection. So far, 562 individuals have been screened, with 19 testing positive. They have been provided DOTS medication and referred to district hospitals for further treatment.

Dr. Gaurav Dubey, Nodal Medical Officer at Mahakumbh Mela Central Hospital, highlighted that AI-driven TB testing is being conducted for the first time at Mahakumbh.

He added, “The handheld machine performs a detailed chest examination via X-ray, and AI-powered cameras analyze infection levels to assess the severity of the disease. Based on these reports, doctors recommend appropriate treatment and medication. All 19 identified patients have been enrolled in the DOTS program and referred to their district hospitals for continued care. “

Dr. Dubey further shared that hundreds of patients receive free treatment for various ailments at the hospital daily. He added, “Since the beginning of Mahakumbh, hospitals across 12 sectors, including the Central Hospital, have treated approximately 5,47,222 patients in OPD. Additionally, pathology tests have been conducted for 4,64,272 individuals, while 4,998 minor surgeries and 14 primary operations have been performed at the temporary hospital. The hospital has also successfully handled 15 childbirths during the event. “

He added, “Notably, several critical cardiac patients suffering from crowd-induced suffocation were successfully treated at the facility. Free X-ray and ultrasound services have also been made available for the first time at Mahakumbh, further enhancing healthcare accessibility for pilgrims and visitors.”
