Local bodies should utilize their rights and powers for public welfare: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that local bodies in Madhya Pradesh have been empowered and are now effectively utilizing their rights and powers to carry out public welfare work. He cited the recent success of the Mukhya Mantri Jankalyan Abhiyan as a prime example of this progress. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav emphasized that urban bodies should further strengthen the state government’s initiatives, urging collective efforts to make these bodies economically self-reliant and enhance their income sources. He explained that when urban bodies achieve economic self-reliance, development can be given new momentum. Additionally, he noted that urban bodies could also create and implement housing schemes similar to those managed by development authorities.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was virtually addressing the meeting of the All India Council of Mayors Madhya Pradesh unit, which was organized in Indore, from Gwalior on Monday. During his address, Dr. Yadav praised the municipal corporations of the state for establishing a unique identity in the country through their development efforts. He highlighted the rapid pace of holistic development in urban areas across Madhya Pradesh. He specifically commended the Indore Municipal Corporation for its outstanding performance in the field of cleanliness. Indore has consistently ranked at the top in the country for cleanliness over the past seven years, and this year, the city continues its strong efforts to maintain its top position. Indore has brought pride to the state.

Urban Housing and Development Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya said that following the 73rd and 74th amendments to the Constitution, the local bodies in Madhya Pradesh have been granted the maximum possible rights. He emphasized that the goal is to further decentralize the local governance system and ensure these bodies receive maximum rights. He urged local bodies to strive for self-reliance by strengthening their taxation systems and exploring new sources of income.

Indore Mayor Shri Pushyamitra Bhargav said that new dimensions of development are being established in Indore under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. He expressed that Indore city is progressing rapidly in the field of development. Assembly Speaker Shri Narendra Singh Tomar and MP Shri V.D. Sharma also participated virtually in the event.

The event saw the presence of several prominent figures, including Minister of State for Urban Housing and Development Smt. Pratima Bagri, National President of the All India Council of Mayors Smt. Madhuri Patel, Indore MP Shri Shankar Lalwani, Rajya Sabha Member Sushri Kavita Patidar, former Minister Shri Umashankar Gupta, local MLA Shri Ramesh Mendola, former MLA Shri Jeetu Jirati, Shri Sumit Mishra, and public representatives such as Shri Shravan Chawda.
