16th Finance Commission Reviews Landslide Damage in Hunthar

Aizawl – Chairman Pu Arvind Panagariya led a delegation of the 16th Finance Commission, including four members and other officials, to Aizawl today. They were received by Dr. Vanlalthlana, Minister of I&PR, Pu TBC Lalvenchhunga, Adviser to the Chief Minister, Pu Khilli Ram Meena, Chief Secretary, along with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Department, and Geology & Mining Department. The delegation conducted an on-site inspection of the landslide-affected area in Hunthar and discussed necessary remedial measures.

During the visit, officials from the Disaster Management & Rehabilitation Department and Public Works Department provided an overview of the landslide history in the area from 1990 to 2024. They highlighted the extent of land displacement, infrastructure damage, and ongoing mitigation efforts. Given the importance of Aizawl’s connectivity, discussions also focused on preventive measures to minimize further risks and ensure safe and stable road infrastructure.

According to the assessment, the total area affected by the landslide in Hunthar is approximately 24.3 hectares.
