BJP’s Vijender Gupta Elected Delhi Assembly Speaker
Vijender Gupta, the BJP MLA from Rohini, was elected as the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly on Monday after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta proposed his name. Following tradition, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Leader of Opposition Atishi accompanied him to the Chair.
The first session of the 8th Delhi Assembly commenced today. Prior to the election, BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely was sworn in as Pro Tem Speaker at Raj Niwas, with the oath administered by Lt. Governor VK Saxena. Following this, Vijender Gupta was formally elected as the Speaker.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who was elected from Shalimar Bagh, later took her oath as a member of the 8th Assembly. Expressing her commitment to Delhi’s development, she stated on X: “I take an oath of dedication to Delhi! Today, I was sworn in as an MLA in the Delhi Assembly. Shalimar Bagh is my karmabhoomi, but every citizen of Delhi is my family. I am dedicated to working for the progress of the entire state and public service. Inspired by Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji’s vision, I will continue striving to build a developed Delhi.”
Delhi minister Parvesh Verma assured that the newly formed government would fulfill its promises and meet public expectations. He stated, “I want to assure the people of Delhi that our government will stand by its commitments. We will deliver on all our election promises. I also seek cooperation from the opposition to enact good laws that will propel Delhi to new heights. While I do not claim we will make Delhi like Paris or London, we are determined to ensure its development. This is our government’s firm resolve.”
