Ankur Bhattacharjee, Syndrela Das win U-19 Boys’ and Girls’ titles in WTT Youth Contender

It was Ankur Bhattacharjee and Syndrela Das who have won the U-19 boy’s and Girls’ singles title respectively in the World Table Tennis Youth Contender which concluded at the Sama Indoor Sports Complex here today. His first title came in 2023 in Tunis.

Bhattacharjee emerged stronger in the Under 19 Boys’ category as he triumphs over Abhinandh Pradhivadhi 3 – 0 (11/5, 18/16, 11/5) in the final, to claim his third World Table Tennis Youth Contender title in the age group. It is noteworthy that The two players had also met in the final of the Under 19 National Championships earlier this year.

Syndrela Das won the Under 19 Girls’ singles although initially trailing 1-2 against Ananya Chande. But Syndrela proved her mettle and kept calm to win the summit clash. Syndrela had been the winner in the WTT Youth Contender Algiers 2024 at the under-15 level last year.

Players from India, Sri Lanka, the Republic of Korea, the United States of America, Australia, England and Antigua and Barbuda competed at the four-day youth table tennis tournament in Vadodara.

Competitions were held in 12 subevents across U19, U17, U15, U13 and U11 levels.

Meanwhile, Balamurugan Rajasekaran-Jennifer Varghese won the U19 mixed doubles crown, defeating Taneesha Kotecha and Preyesh Suresh 3-2 (11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 1-11, 12-10).

Divyanshi Bhowmick was also among the standout performers in Vadodara, winning the titles at the U17 and U15 levels. She was the only singles player to win titles in two different subevents pertinent to two different age groups.
