MoU Signed Between RVUNL and Singareni Collieries: Rajasthan to Play a Key Role as ‘Energy Provider’ – CM Bhajanlal Sharma

1600 MW Thermal and 1500 MW Renewable Energy Projects to be Established

Jaipur : Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the state government has taken significant steps in strengthening the power transmission system and increasing thermal and renewable energy production. With these visionary decisions, Rajasthan is set to emerge as a key ‘Energy Provider’ in the country.

He emphasized that the MoU signed between Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL)—a joint undertaking of the Central Government and the Telangana Government—will be a milestone in power generation and supply for the state.

Shri Sharma made these remarks during the MoU signing ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s residence between SCCL and RVUNL. He highlighted that Rajasthan, the largest state in India, is emerging as a hub for solar energy and will soon become self-reliant in the energy sector. He further stated that the government is making policy decisions to ensure daytime electricity availability for farmers by 2027 and is committed to their time-bound implementation.

1500 MW Solar Park in Rajasthan to Provide 800 MW Electricity

As per the MoU, 1600 MW thermal power projects will be established in Telangana, with 800 MW each allocated to Telangana and Rajasthan. Additionally, a 1500 MW solar park will be set up in Rajasthan, for which RVUNL has already identified land. This project will see an investment of approximately ₹6,000 crore, creating numerous employment opportunities. The total estimated cost of these initiatives stands at ₹22,000 crore.

Major Step Towards Achieving 54,000 MW Power Capacity Target

The Chief Minister also noted that under Rajasthan’s Clean Energy Policy-2024, the state aims to generate 125 GW of solar energy by 2030. Rajasthan has undertaken long-term strategic initiatives to achieve over 54,000 MW power capacity from both conventional and renewable energy sources by 2031-32.

The state government signed investment agreements worth ₹2.28 lakh crore on March 10, 2024, during the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit. Additionally, an MoU worth ₹10,000 crore was signed between Power Grid Corporation and RVUNL. Expressing optimism, Shri Sharma urged relevant PSUs, departments, and agencies to expedite the implementation of these projects to meet the energy demands of the state and the nation.

Telangana Deputy CM Hails MoU as a Historic Step in Energy Cooperation

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister, Shri Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, praised Rajasthan’s immense solar energy potential, stating that this MoU marks a new chapter in India’s energy sector by combining Telangana’s expertise in thermal power with Rajasthan’s vast solar capacity.

Minister of State for Energy (Independent Charge) Shri Heeralal Nagar assured that the Energy Department will work in close coordination with the Telangana Government to ensure the swift execution of these projects.

On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Shri Alok gave a detailed presentation on the MoU.

The event was attended by Principal Secretary (Energy, Telangana) Shri Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Principal Secretary to CM Shri Alok Gupta, RVUNL CMD Shri Devendra Shrangi, SCCL CMD Shri N. Balaram, and other senior officials from the concerned departments.
