Odisha Vigilance Unearths Crores in Assets from STA Joint Commissioner

Assets Worth Crores, Including Multi-Storey Buildings, Cash, and Gold, Unearthed in Vigilance Raid on STA Joint Commissioner

In an ongoing search at nine locations linked to Sri Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, OTES-1(SR), Joint Commissioner, State Transport Authority, Cuttack, Odisha Vigilance has unearthed movable and immovable assets worth crores in the name of Sri Mohanty and his family members.

The recovered assets include:

  1. A triple-storeyed residential building (approx. 2,400 sq. ft.) at Maitri Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar.
  2. Payment of approximately ₹1 crore made by Sri Mohanty to purchase a 4-BHK flat (T1-9C) at 9 Boulevard Apartment, Raghunathpur, Bhubaneswar, in his and his spouse’s name.
  3. A triple-storeyed under-construction building (approx. 7,500 sq. ft.) at Balukhand, Puri (suspected benami property under verification).
  1. Two single-storeyed BHK flats (2C & 2D) at Krishna Sea Sight, Puri (suspected benami properties under verification).
  2. A building at his native village, Tangi, Khordha.
  3. A farmhouse spanning 14.78 acres at Kusupalla, Nayagarh.
  4. Eleven high-value plots in Bhubaneswar, Khordha, Ranapur, and Nayagarh, along with a large agricultural land parcel of 11.08 acres. The registered sale deed (RSD) value is ₹29.03 lakh, though the actual value is suspected to be significantly higher. Undervaluation during registration is under investigation.
  5. ₹15.55 lakh in cash, including 26 high-denomination ₹2,000 notes.
  6. Three gold biscuits (100 grams each) and gold ornaments weighing 1.5 kg.
  7. Two four-wheelers (Maruti Suzuki Brezza & Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder), suspected benami, and a Bullet motorcycle.
  8. Bank deposits and household articles worth over ₹17 lakh.

Sri Pradeep Kumar Mohanty is being questioned regarding the source of these assets, and further searches are underway, with the total valuation expected to rise.

The searches were conducted at nine locations in Bhubaneswar, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, and Cuttack, including his residences, office, and properties linked to his relatives. A total of nine teams from Odisha Vigilance, including senior officials, executed the searches under warrants issued by the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

Sri Mohanty, who entered government service in 1990 as a Junior MVI, has held various positions across the state. He was promoted to Joint Commissioner (Road Safety), STA, Cuttack, in July 2023 and has served in multiple enforcement and transport administration roles over the past three decades.

The investigation is ongoing.
