MP K. Vanlalvena Raises Concerns Over Nit Mizoram Issues In Parliament Budget Session

New Delhi : During the second phase of the Parliament Budget Session today, Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP Pu K. Vanlalvena raised concerns regarding the prolonged hardships faced by NIT Mizoram.

MP Vanlalvena stated that NIT Mizoram is among the ten new NITs established by the Government of India in 2009. Initially, it was mentored by VNIT Nagpur, and the institute began operations in July 2011 in Mizoram. However, despite being established for years, NIT Mizoram still lacks a permanent campus, relying on multiple rented buildings across Durtlang, Chaltlang, and Tanhril instead.

He further highlighted that the proposed permanent campus site at Lengpui falls under a Riverine Reserved Forest area, leading to objections from the Forest Department and resulting in legal hurdles. Additionally, the Forest Department has demanded a significant compensatory payment, which has further delayed the construction process.

MP Vanlalvena expressed gratitude that Union Minister for Forest and Climate Change, Pu Bhupendra Yadav, has responded to his request to resolve the issue. He urged the central government to ensure that the compensation amount is substantially reduced, considering Mizoram’s financial constraints, and to facilitate a quick resolution to the matter.
