Deputy CM Eknath Shinde: Warkari Sect Spreading the Teachings of Saints to the Masses

Honored with the Jagadguru Sant Shri Tukaram Maharaj Award in Dehu

Pune : Saint Tukaram conveyed the philosophy of life in simple language through his Abhangs (devotional hymns). The Warkari sect plays a crucial role in spreading his teachings to the masses while also enlightening society through kirtans (spiritual discourses), said Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

On the occasion of the 375th Jagadguru Shri Tukobaraya Trishkottar Amrit Mahotsav (anniversary of Sant Tukaram’s bodily ascension to Vaikuntha), Deputy CM Shinde was honored with the prestigious Jagadguru Sant Shri Tukaram Maharaj Award in Dehu. Addressing the gathering, he expressed gratitude for this recognition.

The event was attended by MP Shrirang Barne, MLAs Vijay Shivtare and Sharad Sonawane, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Dehu Sansthan President Purushottam Maharaj More, Akshay Maharaj More, Yogi Niranjan Nath from Alandi Sansthan, and other dignitaries.

Government’s Commitment to Warkaris and Cultural Heritage

Expressing that this prestigious award is a source of inspiration, Deputy CM Shinde highlighted the spiritual impact of saints like Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram. He emphasized that the Abhangs of Sant Tukaram empower people to serve the underprivileged. He also mentioned that Marathi pride has increased following its recent recognition as a classical language, but noted that Sant Tukaram had already simplified complex spiritual concepts in Marathi over 400 years ago, making them accessible to all.

He assured that the government is working in line with Tukaram Maharaj’s teachings, striving to bring justice, happiness, and development to the people. The government has taken several decisions for the welfare of the Warkari community and will extend all necessary support to improve facilities in Dehu.

Government Initiatives for Warkaris and Environmental Conservation

Deputy CM Shinde highlighted that millions of Warkaris participate in the Ashadhi Ekadashi pilgrimage to Pandharpur. To facilitate a seamless darshan experience, the government has decided to keep the temple queue open even during the Mahapuja (grand prayer). Additionally, all necessary amenities are provided for Warkaris during their journey.

He also stressed the importance of environmental conservation, stating that the government is making significant efforts to rejuvenate rivers. He urged people to transform river conservation into a mass movement and work towards making Maharashtra’s rivers the cleanest and most exemplary in the country.

Digital Initiatives for Spreading Tukaram Maharaj’s Teachings

To connect the younger generation with Sant Tukaram’s wisdom, the Marathi Language Department is developing an e-book version of his teachings, which will soon be made available in all schools.

The event witnessed a large gathering of Warkaris, who enthusiastically participated in the celebrations.
